In the story “The Loudest Voice” we learn about a young Jewish girl named Shirley. She’s known for having the loudest voice in her school because of that they offered her the biggest role in the Christmas play. Her mothers strong religious beliefs makes her feel disgusted about it and highly against it but her father tells her that its a great opportunity. Her mother calls her neighbors disgusting because of their part of the play and singing in it. The father tells her that there is a lot worst to worry about and that Shirley isn’t dumb if anything it would help her learn more about history. Shirley goes on with the play while getting support from both her father and teachers. The story is about Shirley assimilating into American culture without really realizing it and her mothers ideas against assimilation.
